A Call to Persevere in Faith
19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body,
21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,
25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:19-25)
In the mid-20th century, a musician named Albert Goodson wrote a song titled “We’ve Come This Far by Faith.” It soon became popular because it reminded believers to hold on steadfastly to the hope of God’s promises never to leave or forsake his children.
Even when it may seem that hard times are stacked against us, as followers of Christ we know that God’s gift of faith has brought us to where we are and will carry us through.
And as we are living in a world that is broken by sin, we are all vulnerable to hurt, pain, sadness, and loss. We’ve all experienced the trials of life and have been bruised by them.
As Christians, we know that we live in between the fallen nature of this world, which is merely a shadow of things yet to come, and the fullness of life in a world that will one day be fully restored.
As the body of Christ, we eagerly await the fullness of life, and in the meantime, we continue to lean on the Lord, unmoved and unshaken by the trials and temptations of life.
Ultimately, we rely on the Word of God as our source of life. And in hope we join together, encouraging one another and building each other up as we journey through life in faith.
Thanks to our Steadfast Savior, who shows us his faithfulness each day. May we, as his children and image bearers, continue to represent him in our homes, classrooms, careers, and communities by trusting in him and his word and persevering in our faith.
