Philippians 2:3-9
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus who being in the form of God did not consider it robbery to be equal with God but made himself of no reputation taking the form of a bond servant and coming in the likeness of men and being found in appearance as a man.
He humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross therefore, God also has highly exalted him and given him the name which is above every name. Based on this passage of scripture I want to touch on three points about Our Lord Jesus Christ, how he was humble, how he served, and how he was obedient.
Now Jesus Christ humbled himself: The bible says he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death. He removed himself from glory, he removed himself from the heavenly worship of angels and he became flesh. He humbled himself to become a man. So that he may atone for our sins. Now we too must have that same mind, a mind of humility in our lives.
The second point: Jesus Christ, although God in the flesh became a servant to all people. God in the flesh served all of us by paying the price for our sins. While on this earth, he was clear on his mission. And that was to be about his father’s business and to do his father’s will. We too must have the same mind of Christ which was to serve in his father’s kingdom.
The third and final point: Is that Jesus Christ was obedient. He was obedient to his father’s will, even unto death. If you remember in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus said to his disciples my soul is exceedingly sorrowful even to death and then he started praying. And he said if it is possible let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will
but as you will.
You and I also need to have the mind of Christ, where we are obedient to God’s will. And this obedience must even be unto the death of our own fleshly desires. I believe that Philippians 2:5 is a wonderful call to action for all of us. “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus”.
When Jesus walked on this earth, he was humble. He was selfless and he was obedient to his father’s will.
The question for each of us; is are we becoming more and more like Christ. I encourage you to fight to have the mind of Christ, a mind that’s fixed on the kingdom of God, A mind of love, A mind with a serving attitude, and a mind that loves the things of God.
