The Power of Prayer
Prayer is a powerful weapon in spiritual warfare. When we pray, we partner with God. We align ourselves with his will by listening to his Spirit, and we declare with faith what he can and will do on our behalf.
I’ve heard people say that prayer is about changing us, not changing the situation. I believe it does both.
Prayer changes us… If we listen to the Holy Spirit as we pray, our hearts and minds will respond to his quiet, loving voice and obey.
Prayer also changes our environment. “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results” (James 5:16, NLT).
When Paul described the armor of God that we are to use in spiritual warfare, he concluded by saying, “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere” (Ephesians 6:18, NLT).
Prayer is communication between us and our loving heavenly Father.
He loves us, so he listens and responds to us.
Our sincere prayers touches God’s heart because they demonstrate our faith, trust in him.
Every aspect of prayer—listening, speaking God’s truth, verbalizing our trust and faith—deflects the lies of Satan, frustrates his strategies, and invites the power and presence of God into the battles we face.
Through prayer, we fight against Satan. And we win, because we are victorious in Christ Jesus!
Prayer has many expressions.
Adoration – honoring God for who he is
Praise – celebrating the good things God has done
Thanksgiving – expressing our gratefulness to God for how he has blessed us
Confession – humbly bringing our sins and failures before God in the full confidence that he forgives and restores
Petition – asking God to meet our needs
Intercession – praying for others
Listening – simply being still and letting God speak to you
Prayer is meant to be a way of life, with our hearts continually turned towards God.
Let your day be filled with quiet moments of adoration, spontaneous praise and thanksgiving, humble confession, Spirit-led intercession, and heartfelt petitions—all flowing from a surrendered heart that worships him in everything.
