The Truth About Hell
Last week we talked about the truth about heaven. This week I will teach on the truth about hell. Now when you
talk about hell that is a message to unbelievers. So, I’m going to deal with hell today. This is so you can take good
notes and minister to unbelievers. But this is not for you. I want all of you to understand something. If you have been
born-again and have made Jesus the Lord of your life, you are heaven bound. But if you are not born-again and not a
believer, listen very carefully today. I hope I can change your mind.
The world we live in doesn’t believe in things that are not actively preached in church, including the existence of
hell; however, it’s a real place. With this in mind, the final destination of people who don’t believe that God and the
devil even exist is completely different than for the born- again believers. Hell was created for Satan and his angles,
not for mankind. It’s the consequence for deciding to reject God’s forgiveness and Jesus as the final sacrifice
for sin; our eternal destiny rests on the choice we make.
You Ready… Let’s Go!!
Matthew 13:42 (NKJV) – Listen to how this goes and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be
wailing and gnashing of teeth.
He is talking about unbelievers
Matthew 10:28 (NKJV)
And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both
soul and body in hell.
So here again, it makes reference to hell for people who don’t believe in it.
The scripture is very clear about making reference to it over and over that there is a hell.
We live in a generation now that don’t believe in a heaven or a hell. So I want to take some time to show you the
truth about this.
2 Peter 2:4 (NKJV)
For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of
darkness, to be reserved for judgment;
This scripture says that God did not spare those angels that sinned.
Remember that whole war in heaven and those angels that rebelled against God; God did not spare those
angels that sinned, but He cast them down to hell.
You are gonna find out that hell was not created for us. It was created for the fallen angels. It was created for the
devil and those fallen angels. It was a place that was created for those rebellious angles and Satan of course
was an archangel.
So, hell is a literal place. It was not originally created for man.
Psalm 9:17 (NKJV)
The wicked shall be turned into hell, And all the nations that forget God.
But remember the original purpose for hell was not for mankind
Mark 9:43 (NKJV)
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two
hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—
There are too many scriptures that refer to hell for it not to be a real place
Let’s see if we can locate it
Ephesians 4:9 (NKJV)
(Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?
This scripture tells us that this is located in the lower parts of the earth
It was created for all fallen angels and demonic forces; the lower parts of the earth
Of course Jesus went to hell, the lower parts of the earth, for three days and three nights; what did yall think he was
doing in the tomb… chillin’ in the cut. Naw! He had work to do.
So now we know where it is. We know exactly where it is. It is in the lower parts of the earth or Hades.
Now, what I’m about to show you is something in Luke chapter 16 which was an actual event that took place.
Turn to Luke 16. This is where I want to spend the majority of my time today.
It is important that we rightly divide the word because when it comes to heaven, most people believe in it and
most people believe that they are going there. On the other hand while some people believe in hell, most don’t
think they are going there.
Now, we are living in a very interesting time now. We are living in a very interesting time where people don’t
believe in God, they don’t believe in the devil, they don’t believe in hell, they don’t believe in heaven. They can
live like hellions and you ask them where they think they are going. And they emphatically say that they are going
to heaven.
Then I ask is Jesus the Lord of your life… And they look at me like I called them out their name…It Ain’t Gonna
Happen!
Let’s look at this real carefully
Luke 16:19-31 (NKJV)
“There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and [a] fared sumptuously every day. 20 But
there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, 21 desiring to be fed with [b] the
crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 So it was that the
beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 And
being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his
finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in
your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are
tormented. 26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass
from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’ 27 “Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you
would send him to my father’s house, 28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’ 29 Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 31 But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’ ” Vs 19 – The first thing that got my attention is that the Bible says that there was a “certain rich man.” Which means he is not making this story up. This guy actually existed. There was a certain rich man. A particular one. A specific man. A certain rich man. Vs 20 – He says there was a certain beggar and he gave the name. So, we are not talking about some made up fable. We are actually referring to two certain people, very specific situation, as it begins to give us insight on this Vs 22 – Now this is very interesting. You have to remember that this is a situation that took place before Jesus was born and before Jesus had died Hell was divided up into two compartments. And between this bottom part and the top part was this great gulf that kept people from crossing over
And so the upper region of hell was referred to as Abraham’s bosom
This is the place where all those that were in covenant with God were there until Jesus came to
“set the captives free.”
So on the other side, or the lower part of hell is where the wicked, non-believers, etc. went
Now I want you to count the number of times the word “torment” appears
Vs 23 – Notice the senses that were working (he sees) Both of these guys are dead, but when you die your
physical body returns to the dirt. But your spirit and soul goes with you wherever you are. If your soul didn’t go,
you wouldn’t be able to recognize people. It’s your spirit and your soul.
Vs 28 – Now watch this… he was just saying that somebody go tell them that this is all real. I didn’t know
this was all real, but now I’m here and I need someone to warn everybody else. And we think that would be a pretty
good idea, right?
Vs 29 – I ain’t sending nobody back from the dead. Cause you know what will happen, nobody would believe it.
Vs 31 – that’s a strong indictment
So what are the things we see here?
1. People in hell suffer; the rich man uses the word “torment” three times. So it’s clear that the rich man
is in real pain, not imagined pain, not symbolic pain, he’s in real pain
2. Once you are in hell, you can’t cross over into heaven. Ain’t no mulligan or do over. There is
nothing more permanent than “you dead”. We are in the game right now and you only get ready for the
game one kind of way and that is by believing in Jesus. We have 365 days a year to determine our
future destination. But once our physical life ends, we have no more chances. The believer enters heaven
and the non-believer enters hell. And that’s it! Debates and religion doesn’t matter. In the end,
everybody is going to see exactly what I’m talking about today. And you will see I’m telling you the
truth. Some may think that I’m wrong. But here is the question…Do you think you can afford to take that chance? Once you have made Jesus the Lord of your life, you are good. So all this that I’m talking about now, should not worry you. You have made your reservation to Holy Ghost hotel.
But if you haven’t made Jesus the Lord of your life, this message should concern you.
3. People in hell are fully conscience and aware of where they are. They know that they are in a bad
place and only wish that they had made a different choice.
Read Revelation 20:11 (NKJV)
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And
there was found no place for them.
Great white throne is simply the judgement of non-believers
Everyone is going to die and there will be two resurrections. The resurrection of those believers;
you’ll be clothed and meet Jesus in the air
The second resurrection, which you don’t want to be a part of, the second resurrection is where non-
believers will be judged and sentenced
This is the judgement of non-believers and who will be at this judgement is everyone who has rejected God’s offer
of forgiveness through Jesus Christ
The number of people who have rejected this offer is staggering
Jesus said that I am the ransom and I paid the price for you to be free. The unbeliever said the he doesn’t want it.
The unbeliever said that he doesn’t believe. These people will be at this judgement seat.
John 3:18 (NKJV)
He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has
not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
What a sad day to see the consequences of not believing
I’m here to teach you, not to appease you. My job is important and I take my responsibility seriously. I want to
see each of you in heaven
God has an intent and we have a decision.
The truth is God never intended for any person to go to hell. He didn’t even create hell for that.
