Being a Witness
15) My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds, of your saving acts all day long—- though I know not how to relate them all.=
16) I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign Lord; I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.
(Psalm 71:15-16)
Have you ever reflected on what it means to be a witness to God’s saving work?
To be a witness is to simply tell someone about what you have seen and heard.
As Christians, we believe that God is always at work around us, so our role is to bear witness to his presence and goodness.
There were two friends, and one friend grew up with a negative view of religion and often made it known and would spar with the other friend about his faith.
Years later the friend who had the negative view about religion his wife developed dementia, and he spent years caring for her at their home up until she passed away.
In her final months he barely left the house; he was a constant and consistent presence at her side.
He told his friend that as hard as it was, he wouldn’t have wanted to do anything differently.
His deep faithfulness, love and care for his wife, can prompt us to take a moment and think about how much God cares for us, how much God loves us and how great his faithfulness is toward us.”
Let us be reminded of how we can see God at work—if we pay attention. We can see the evidence of his goodness all our lives each and every day.
Asking God to help us pay more attention to his work all around us, may make it a little easier to be a witness about God’s righteous deeds in our lives and in the lives of others.
God has called us to declare his power and glory to others.
My prayer is that God would open our spiritual eyes so that we may we see his hand at work in our daily lives and in the lives of the people around us.
And that he would help us to take notice and to bear witness to his goodness and his greatness.
